Legends & Mythology
Few places in Ireland are as deeply connected to myth and legend as the Ring of Gullion. This is the land of Fionn Mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool), the legendary warrior giant of Irish mythology. According to ancient tales, Fionn gained his wisdom and supernatural powers in these very hills.
At the summit lies a small lake known as Calliagh Berra's Lough, named after the Celtic witch goddess. Legend holds that anyone who swims in its waters will emerge with grey hair - a curse placed by the Calliagh herself. The lake sits beside a 5,000-year-old passage tomb, adding to the mountain's mystical atmosphere.
"This is where Ireland's ancient past feels closest - where mythology and landscape intertwine in ways that stir the imagination."
