Traverse from the seaside town of Newcastle through the enchanting Tollymore Forest, beneath the iconic granite peaks of the Mourne Mountains, past ancient burial sites dating back 3,000 years, to finish overlooking the sparkling waters of Carlingford Lough in the picturesque village of Rostrevor.

This two-day adventure takes you through some of Northern Ireland's most dramatic landscapes — from Game of Thrones filming locations to Bronze Age heritage, from remote mountain reservoirs to forests that inspired C.S. Lewis's Narnia.

Day One

Newcastle to Spelga Dam

Start at Newcastle through Shimna Park
Enter Tollymore Forest Park (Game of Thrones Haunted Forest)
Pass below Slieve Bearnagh's distinctive tors
Cross Fofanny Dam
Summit Butter Mountain (highest point on the route)
End at Spelga Dam area

Overnight Options: Wild camping in remote sections, return to Newcastle, or arrange pickup at Spelga Dam.

Kilbroney Forest Park with views towards Carlingford Lough
Day Two

Spelga Dam to Rostrevor

Pass the 3,000-year-old King's Grave (Bronze Age burial site, c.1500 BC)
Cross Rocky Mountain / Tornamrock
Descend through Kilbroney Forest Park
Finish in Rostrevor with views of Carlingford Lough
